The recommendations in the revised, 6th edition of the WHO manual on semenThe recommendations in the revised, 6th edition of the WHO manual on semenexamination have been slightly changed. One aspect has been to rearrange into morepractical step-by-step instructions by changing order and relocating backgroundinformation and explanations from the text describing the flow of examination steps.Furthermore, some “traditional” but less evidence based assessments have beenmoved to “extended” examination due to questioned clinical value. This allowsmore focus on the four basic characteristics: concentration, motility, vitality andmorphology. Also concerning these examinations, more focus has been onevidence based efficiency in laboratory work. Finally, the relation betweenthe 6th WHO edition and the simultaneously published ISO standard 23162:2021 is explained.
